New Year’s Eve in Dubai: How to See the Fireworks – Plus 5 Hotels with a Front-Row View

New Year’s Eve in Dubai means warm evening air instead of frost, fireworks over the world’s tallest buildings – and huge crowds who want exactly the same as you. Turn up without a plan and you’ll quickly find yourself stuck behind barriers, in traffic or far from the best view.

This guide shows where the fireworks happen, how to plan your evening and which five hotels, based on our research, offer the best view of the midnight show.

New Year’s Eve in Dubai at a glance

  • Time zone: Dubai is on UTC+4. Midnight in Dubai is 8 p.m. in London and 9 p.m. in Berlin – handy for calling home afterwards.
  • Weather: late December days are usually pleasantly warm, but evenings get noticeably cooler. A light jacket is a good idea.
  • Scale: for the last New Year, Dubai announced 48 fireworks displays at 40 locations. The official map for 2026/27 is usually only published in December, but the locations below have featured year after year.

Dubai’s main fireworks displays

Burj Khalifa in Downtown Dubai

The most famous show launches from the world’s tallest building, often combined with light and laser effects on the façade and the Dubai Fountain. Around the Burj Khalifa there are free viewing areas along Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, on a first-come, first-served basis. Burj Park, right at the foot of the tower, is the only paid area in Downtown – and last time it was almost sold out days in advance.

Palm Jumeirah and Atlantis

On the Palm, fireworks light up the island, especially at Atlantis The Palm on the outer crescent. You can watch for free from the boardwalk, and it’s usually more relaxed than Downtown.

Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah

The Burj Al Arab has its own display too. On the night, only guests and diners can access the hotel itself – but the views from the beaches and resorts around Madinat Jumeirah are excellent.

More locations

Recent fireworks sites have also included Dubai Creek Harbour, Dubai Festival City, Bluewaters, The Beach at JBR, Al Seef, Global Village and Expo City Dubai. With small children, or if you dislike big crowds, these spots are often a better choice than Downtown.

How to plan your evening

  1. Arrive early: road closures in Downtown start in the afternoon – last time from around 4 p.m. If you want a spot on the Boulevard, be there by then at the latest.
  2. Take the Metro, not a taxi: the Metro runs later on New Year’s Eve, but stations around the Burj Khalifa may close temporarily due to crowds. Plan your route to the nearest open station and allow plenty of time to get back.
  3. Bring food and drinks: you can bring your own into the free viewing areas – you’ll be there for hours.
  4. Prepare the kids: ear protection for little ones and a fixed meeting point in case you get separated are invaluable in the crowds.
  5. Book a restaurant or rooftop: many hotels and restaurants offer New Year’s Eve packages with dinner and a view. They’re expensive and sell out early, so reserve well ahead.
  6. Check the latest information: the RTA transport authority and event organisers publish road closures, Metro hours and free viewing areas shortly before New Year’s Eve.

Top 5 hotels with a view of the New Year’s fireworks

First, an important point: being close doesn’t guarantee a view. Book a room category with the right outlook and get it confirmed in writing. Over New Year’s Eve, minimum stays and surcharges are common.

1. Address Downtown

Right next to the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall, this is about as close as it gets. Rooms facing the tower are among the most sought-after in the city on New Year’s Eve. Last time, one of the free public viewing areas was also at Address Downtown.

2. Palace Downtown

Built in the style of an Arabian palace, this hotel sits on Burj Lake opposite the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Fountain. Room categories include fountain and tower views, many with balconies. If you can’t get one, try for a table on the terrace of Thai restaurant Thiptara, which also overlooks the tower and fountain.

3. Atlantis The Palm

On the outer crescent of Palm Jumeirah, Atlantis is itself one of the fireworks locations. Add the huge Aquaventure water park and a private beach, and it’s ideal for families combining New Year’s Eve with a beach holiday.

4. Burj Al Arab Jumeirah

The sail-shaped hotel on its own island is the backdrop for its own fireworks display. With access restricted to guests and diners on the night, it’s one of the most exclusive places to welcome the new year.

5. Jumeirah Al Qasr

Set within the Madinat Jumeirah resort, with its canals and walkways, Al Qasr is just a short distance from the Burj Al Arab. From the beach and sea-facing balconies you get a great view of the Burj Al Arab fireworks – without the Downtown crush.

Which spot suits you?

  • You want the big spectacle: Downtown and the Burj Khalifa – with an early start and plenty of patience.
  • You’re travelling with children: Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah or one of the smaller fireworks sites.
  • You want it relaxed and exclusive: a hotel room or restaurant table with a view, booked early.

Conclusion: New Year’s Eve in Dubai is worth it – with a plan

New Year’s Eve in Dubai is one of the most spectacular ways to welcome the year anywhere. What matters is deciding in advance where you want to be, arriving in good time and actually securing the hotel room with the view. Then what you’ll remember is the fireworks – not the traffic.
